A bill is making its way through Beacon Hill that could result in life in prison for certain offenders.

Massachusetts Assistant Minority Leader Senator Ryan Fattman, who represents the Worcester and Norfolk counties, has presented legislation relative to illegal drug and firearm trafficking.

If the bill passes and you are convicted of trafficking both drugs and guns in the state of Massachusetts, you can receive a sentence of up to life in prison.

Fattman created the bill due to his stance on the combination of drugs and guns.

“S2921, An Act relative to illegal drug and firearm trafficking, is legislation that I filed to make dangerous and violent criminals think twice before doing any business that involves the deadly combination of narcotics and firearms. This bill would require a life sentence for anyone found guilty of illegally trafficking drugs and guns. Keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not have them and wish to do harm to the public is the goal of this legislation.”

In addition to the life sentence, a person convicted of drug and gun trafficking would not be eligible for furlough, work release, temporary release or receive any deduction from his or her sentence for good conduct. A fine of up to $500,000 dollars could also be issued.

The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee on October 8th.
