A fundraising campaign has been established through the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts Foundation to support the family of Elizabeth Marie Hunt, a 35-year-old Walpole firefighter and paramedic who died on Tuesday.
Hunt, of Abington, joined the Walpole Fire Department in April 2022, serving in Group 1 at Station 1. She had recently earned a master’s degree from Waldorf University in May 2026 as she pursued leadership opportunities in the fire service. Before becoming a firefighter/paramedic, she worked as a personal trainer and held a fifth-degree black belt in karate after 23 years of training and teaching.
She is survived by her wife, Stephanie McKinnon, a Massachusetts State Police dispatcher. The couple had been together for 10 years and married for 6.
The PFFM Foundation campaign describes Hunt as a dedicated first responder whose sudden death left an emotional and financial void for her family. Contributions are intended to ease immediate burdens for her wife and relatives. The foundation works with the Massachusetts public safety community to support families of fallen first responders.
Visiting hours are scheduled for Monday, November 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the rotary) in Whitman. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts in Brockton or The HauntProof Foundation. Hunt was known for her love of animals, particularly cats.
