President Trump downplays security attack, contradicts Administration on who may be at fault
President Trump suggested this morning that China, not Russia, may be behind a serious cyber security attack against the United States, despite officials saying otherwise.
This week, CISA and other federal agencies issued an emergency directive stating that SolarWinds Orion products are currently being exploited by malicious actors which permits an attacker to gain access to network traffic management systems.
CISA stated that they know this compromise has affected multiple networks within the federal government.
CISA determined that this exploitation of SolarWinds products poses an unacceptable risk to Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies.
President Trump issued the following statement Saturday concerning the hack.
“The Cyber Hack is far greater in the Fake News Media than in actuality. I have been fully briefed and everything is well under control. Russia, Russia, Russia is the priority chant when anything happens because Lamestream is, for mostly financial reasons, petrified of discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!). There could also have been a hit on our ridiculous voting machines during the election, which is now obvious that I won big, making it an even more corrupted embarrassment for the USA.”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated yesterday on the Mark Levin Show that Russia was behind the attack.
“I can’t say much more as we’re still unpacking precisely what it is, and I’m sure some of it will remain classified. But suffice it to say there was a significant effort to use a piece of third-party software to essentially embed code inside of U.S. Government systems and it now appears systems of private companies and companies and governments across the world as well. This was a very significant effort, and I think it’s the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity.”
Russia has been previously accused of hacking concerning the 2016 presidential election.
Experts believe that Russia may have been looking for secrets on weaponry, nuclear weapons, and/or COVID-19 vaccine information.
Russia has denied involvement, according to multiple outlets.
