Portsmouth, Tiverton, Bristol, Middletown, and Newport respond to possible explosion that significantly damaged part of home

Part of a home was destroyed Monday and a firefighter was injured as several crews responded to extinguish flames at an area home.

According to the Plymouth Fire Department, just after 5:00 p.m., Portsmouth Fire Alarm received multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire and possible explosion at 44 Valhalla Drive.

Portsmouth Fire Alarm dispatched Car 2, Engine 3, Engine 2 and Ladder 1 to the incident along with Portsmouth Police.

On arrival, Car 2 reported a working fire, with heavy fire showing from the front of the home in the basement with extension into the first floor and attic.

A second alarm was transmitted which brought in Tiverton Ladder 2, Newport Engine 1, Newport Ladder 1, Bristol ladder 1 and Middletown Rescue 3 to the scene.

The fire was placed under control in a half hour. The fire significantly damaged a portion of the home.

All occupants in the home were accounted for.

One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury and was transported to Newport ER and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Portsmouth Fire Marshal, Portsmouth Police and the State Fire Marshal.
