A serious fiery crash has tragically left three people dead.

According to Rhode Island State Police, earlier this morning, at 1:55 a.m., Troopers from both the Wickford and Hope Valley Barracks responded to a single vehicle crash in the tree line of Route 95 South, just South of Exit 8, in the town of West Warwick.

The Investigation revealed that a sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed in the second lane of travel of Route 95 South. The operator subsequently lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road and into the grass shoulder, where it then struck a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Members of the West Warwick Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the flames. Troopers located the driver and two passengers inside the vehicle, who had all suffered life threatening injuries from both the crash and ensuing fire. West Warwick Rescue personnel declared that all were deceased on scene.

Due to the nature of their injuries, neither the driver nor passengers were able to be identified on scene.

All three occupants were extracted and taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for confirmation of identification via dental records, those results are expected by the end of the week.

Troopers from the Reconstruction Unit as well as the Forensic Services Unit also responded.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Wickford Barrack at 444-1064.
