Police respond after Rhode Island man tells Massachusetts television station that he wants to “kill people”
Police responded on Tuesday after a Rhode Island man reportedly called a Massachusetts television station with disturbing information.
According to police, on Tuesday, just before 2:15 p.m., the police department received a call from WCVB TV Boston reporting that a person living on Lenox Ct. (in North Kingstown) called in and stated that he had a story for them involving him in possession of “guns” and wanting to “kill people.”
Police called the man who informed police that he was alone with a gun and wanted to “kill people.” A perimeter was established while the fire department staged nearby. All residents in the surrounding apartments were evacuated while police continued to engage the man in conversation and build rapport. The department’s mental health clinician was also requested to respond to the scene.
Through further conversation, police were able to talk the subject down. He would soon cooperate to end the situation peacefully and came out unarmed. The clinician certified him- meaning he was required to go to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The apartment was searched, and no weapons were located.
