Police release name of victim in deadly crash on Route 95
A man has been killed in a serious weekend crash.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 5:09 p.m. on March 27th, Troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks as well as members of the Pawtucket Fire and Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash on the ramp from Smithfield Avenue to Route 95 North in the City of Pawtucket.
The investigation revealed that a GMC Sedona, operated by John Betters III, age 62, of Providence, was traveling on the ramp from Smithfield Avenue to Route 95 North. At a point approximately two hundred feet south of the merge between the ramp and Route 95, the Sedona left the roadway and veered left, consequently entering the grassy median. The Sedona traveled for another one hundred feet and struck a tree head on.
Betters was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.
