Police: New Bedford man, Westport woman, arrested after multiple drugs, thousands in cash, seized

A Westport woman and a New Bedford man were recently arrested on drug charges after multiple drugs and several grand in cash were reportedly seized by police.

During this month, members of the Police Department Narcotics Unit developed information regarding distribution of illicit narcotics within Portsmouth.

The subsequent investigation identified 40-year-old Tara Desilveira of Westport, Massachusetts and 41-year-old Paul Silva of New Bedford, Massachusetts as the primary suspects.

On Wednesday, just before 12:45 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted as they entered the Town of Portsmouth.

As a result of this investigation, the Portsmouth Police Department seized 3 grams of Fentanyl, 11.5 grams of Crack Cocaine, and 18 Adderall pills along with $8206 in cash.

Desilveira was arrested and charged with four counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver.

Silva was arrested and charged with Conspiracy and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

They were both arraigned Thursday in 2nd District Court in Newport, RI.
