Police investigating incident where horse was impaled with handle of pitchfork
Police are investigating an incident that injured a horse.
According to HPD, on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at approximately 9am, the Harwich Police Department received a 911 call for an injured horse at a barn on Derby Lane in North Harwich.
Harwich Police Officer and a Dennis Animal Control Officer responded to the scene to investigate. The initial investigation revealed that someone entered the horse corral sometime overnight on Saturday and used the handle of a pitchfork to impale a horse named Scottie.
According to the family, four of their horses were let out of their stalls in addition to the attack.
Scottie survived the initial removal of the handle after being brought to a surgeon, according to the owners, and had a successful operation Sunday evening.
A GoFundMe page had raised over $35,000 for expenses concerning Scottie’s care as of Tuesday night.
The Harwich Police Department is investigating this matter as a felony offense against an animal.
If you live in the area and have security cameras, contact Detective Sergeant Bob Brackett at 508-430-7541.
