UPDATE: Name released in fatal Saturday morning motorcycle crash in Westport
A serious crash occurred this morning in Westport that claimed a life.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., a call came in for a motorcycle versus vehicle crash at the corner of Gifford Road and Route 177.
Extra manpower was requested to the scene shortly after.
The motorcycle driver was seriously injured and was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital. He later died from his injuries.
According to Detective Jeff Majewski, the motorcycle operator was operating the bike on American Legion Highway at what’s believed (based on witnesses) at an excessive speed. That section of highway has a hill headed west and another vehicle turned and the bike lost control.
The motorcycle is believed to be stolen based on the initial investigation.
According to Detective Sergeant Christopher Dunn, the motorcycle operator was identified as Paul LaFrance, 28, of Fall River.
