Police in Massachusetts charge driver in hit-and-run crash that seriously injured 13-year-old

Police in Massachusetts have announced that the driver of a hit-and-run pedestrian crash that seriously injured a teenaged boy has been charged.

According to Interim Chief James Cogan, on Wednesday, November 2, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Acton Police and Fire were called to Great Road, in the area of Harris Street, for a report of a crash.

First responders discovered a 13-year-old Cesar Soto Jr. suffering from serious injuries, and worked to treat that male and transport him to a Boston area trauma center.

An intensive investigation collected video surveillance from nearby businesses to identify a vehicle of interest in the case. Acton Police subsequently obtained a search warrant and seized that vehicle.

The ongoing investigation identified 85-year-old Joan Hurley of Maynard as the driver.

Acton Police sought a criminal complaint charging Hurley from Concord District Court, which was issued by the court on Wednesday, January 18.

Hurley was charged with Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Crosswalk Violation.

Hurley is scheduled to be arraigned in Concord District Court on March 9.

Soto Jr. was released from the hospital in a wheelchair just before Christmas.
