Police department announces sudden death of active-duty Massachusetts officer
With heavy hearts, Chief Jack Pilecki and the members of the Wellesley Police Department regret to announce the sudden passing of active-duty Wellesley Police Officer Lamars Hughes.
Officer Hughes passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2023, while off duty. He was 58 years old.
Officer Hughes is a 29-year veteran of the Wellesley Police Department, having been appointed to the department in March of 1994. The department stated that Officer Hughes is well known and highly respected throughout the entire Wellesley community.
The Wellesley Police Department is supporting the Hughes family in their time of grieving. Further announcements regarding arrangements will be forthcoming when arrangements are made.
A cause of death was not released.
