Chief Marc Haslam reports that the suspect in an attempted robbery at McDonald’s in Swansea was arrested today in Warren, Rhode Island by the Warren Police Department in connection to another attempted robbery.

In addition to the new charges in Warren, 22-year-old Devin Vieira, of Warren, Rhode Island, was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Swansea Police in connection with the attempted robbery in Swansea.

Vieira was wanted by Swansea Police on the charge of Attempt to Commit a Crime to wit Unarmed Robbery.

The warrant for Vieira alleges he attempted to rob the McDonald’s in Swansea on Tuesday. At approximately 7:00 p.m. yesterday, a Swansea Police Officer was dispatched to the McDonald’s restaurant on James Reynolds Road for a report of an attempted robbery. During officers’ on-scene investigation, police learned that a man had allegedly approached a cashier demanding money. When the cashier refused, the suspect allegedly fled the restaurant.

After reviewing video surveillance footage, the manager of McDonald’s was able to provide a still image of the suspect to police. Swansea Police then shared the still image of the suspect with surrounding agencies, and shortly after, Warren Police Lt. Christopher Perreault identified Vieira as the suspect. Additional investigation led to Swansea Police obtaining the warrant for Vieira.

Vieira is expected to appear in court in Rhode Island and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office Extradition Coordinator is working on the process of having Vieira extradited back to Massachusetts.

Chief Haslam thanked the Warren Police Department for their assistance in the arrest.
