Police arrest accused local serial scammer after victim helps PD nab suspect

Police were able to track down a man accused of scams throughout the area due to the help of one of his alleged victims.

According to police, on Tuesday, Duxbury Police received a call from a concerned resident who felt she was a victim of a fraud. The resident reportedly contacted Kevin Ribeiro to do some work on her house. After sending Ribeiro $200 through Venmo, the resident felt she may have been scammed and called police.

Officer Wadsworth and Detective Flynn investigated Ribeiro and learned he has a history of scamming people and that there were seven active warrants for his arrest. The resident also told the Officers that Ribeiro would be returning to her home later in the afternoon.

Knowing this, Detective Flynn awaited Ribeiro’s return to the residence. Later in the afternoon, Ribeiro did return to the residence and Detective Flynn approached Ribeiro and identified himself. Ribeiro immediately ran from Detective Flynn and a foot pursuit continued through several yards and eventually into a wooded area. Detective Flynn ordered Ribeiro to stop several times and warned him that he would be tased if he continued to refuse. Detective Flynn and Officer Lippard were able to apprehend Ribeiro after a brief struggle.

Ribeiro was arrested on seven outstanding warrants from several different jurisdictions related to Larceny, Fraud, and Resisting Arrest.
