In a scene out of a movie or tv show, a Massachusetts man is facing a bunch of charges after an hours-long pursuit by police.

According to police, late Monday afternoon, Kingston PD responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a male suspect stealing from employees’ purses at Carmela’s restaurant. The suspect fled when confronted by staff. With the assistance of K-9s from the Plymouth County Sheriff a search was conducted. The investigation led to a suspect at a nearby residence he was associated with.

The suspect, 25-year-old Shawn Badejo of Plymouth, was wanted on several other matters and, besides those matters, was also found to have a significant additional past history including allegations of multiple serious violent crimes against children and adults. Subsequently, finding him and taking him into custody was a top priority for KPD – resulting in the large police presence observed scouring the area.

A search of the home resulted in nothing found. Officers continued to search the area and County K9s continued to track Badejo. It was then found by officers that he entered Sunshine Liquors, ran through an employee area upon officer approach, and again fled. K9 track began to close on Badejo, who obtained a bicycle and fled again. Officers tracked him and found a window to another local residence to be broken.

As officers began to close on the residence to set up a perimeter, Badejo again fled, ran across Main St and onto Route 3. The party was being chased by officers on foot down the ramps of Route 3. Badejo then ran across all 4 lanes of route 3 (both directions, jumping the dividing jersey barriers). Officers closed from all directions and cruisers were deployed to Badejo’s anticipated direction of flight as it was being communicated by the pursuing officers.

As Badejo jumped the barrier into the Baymont Inn Hotel parking lot, officers and deputies were on scene and took him into custody without any use of force.

This was a several hour ordeal involving a large area in the 100-200 block of Main St (area of route 3 exit 18).

There were no injuries during this incident.
