Pets rescued, revived, after fire rips through Massachusetts home

1 person was taken to the hospital and 2 pets were rescued from a fire in Massachusetts on Friday.

According to Sterling Police, the Sterling Communication Center received a call at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Maple Street concerning a man yelling for help and for someone to call the police and fire.

Units were dispatch to investigate the area.

Soon after several more similar calls were received, a call reporting a structure fire by a retired firefighter who lives in the area came into dispatch. Fire units confirmed heavy fire coming from the second floor and fire apparatus were dispatched.

During the incident, crews found 2 cats in the house, Clinton Fire Chief Lutes administered oxygen to revive the felines and comfort them until the Animal Control Officer arrived on scene to take them to the animal hospital.

1 occupant was taken to the hospital and later released.

The Sterling, MA Fire Department was assisted by the Clinton Fire Dept, Lancaster Fire Dept, Holden Fire Dept, West Boylston Fire Dept, Boylston Fire Dept, and Princeton Fire Dept. Also assisting at the scene were town departments Dept of Public Works and Sterling Municipal Light Department.
