PETA offering up to $5,000 reward in unresponsive dog dumping case at a Walmart parking lot

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for abandoning a dog who was found unresponsive in a cooler bag in a Walmart parking lot on Monday.

Coventry police and animal control officers reported to the scene and rushed the dog for emergency veterinary care. However, she had to be euthanized, and police have launched a cruelty investigation.

According to police, the dog was a female brown Chihuahua somewhere between 3 and 7 years old and weighing 8 to 10 pounds. She was abandoned inside a Coors Light–brand cooler bag at the southeast corner of the parking lot of the Walmart at 650 Centre of New England Blvd., likely within the 24 hours before police found her at 7:20 p.m. on January 11.

“This dog needed veterinary care or to be taken to an animal shelter, but instead, someone sealed her up inside a bag and left her for dead on the roadside,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this animal to come forward immediately so that the person who left her to suffer and die can be held accountable.”
