Pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by Fairhaven Police cruiser

FAIRHAVEN — Lt. Kevin Kobza reports that a pedestrian crash involving a Fairhaven Police cruiser is currently under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Aug. 23, Fairhaven Police responded to the area of 188 Huttleston Ave. for a report of a pedestrian crash involving a cruiser.

Police state that the officer driving the cruiser immediately stopped and summoned for help. Fairhaven Police officers initiated medical care until paramedics arrived on scene and took over medical treatment.

The man suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the pedestrian was a 32-year-old man with a last known address in South Weymouth.

The victim has since been transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he remains in critical condition at this time.

The police cruiser involved in the crash was a 2014 Ford Explorer.

The incident is under investigation by State Police investigators assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

According to Fairhaven PD, as is protocol, the officer who was driving the cruiser has been placed on administrative leave.
