Parts of Route 24, Route 44 to close for several days
RAYNHAM – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be implementing roadway and ramp closures on Route 44 and Route 24 in Raynham. The road closures begin overnight starting on Friday, August 28, through Monday, August 31, as follows:
· Full road closures will be implemented on Route 24 north and southbound at the bridge site from 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, through 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29.
· Full road closures will be implemented on Route 44 east and westbound at the bridge site from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, through 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31.
The temporary closures are necessary to move the south bridge (Route 44 eastbound) into its final location for the Route 44 over Route 24 Bridge Replacement Project. The bridge will be moved from its current, temporary location using a “lateral slide” construction technique where the bridge will be pushed horizontally with jacks.
The work will require detours as follows:
Route 24 north to Route 44 west or Route 24 north continuation:
· Take exit 13A and cross over Route 44 to access the ramp to continue on Route 24 north. For traffic destined for Route 44 west, take exit 14B off Route 24 to I-495 north. Take exit 7B for Route 24 south. Take exit 13 for Route 44 west.
Route 24 south to Route 44 east or Route 24 south continuation:
· Take exit 13 and cross over Route 44 to access the ramp to continue on Route 24 south. For traffic destined for Route 44 east, take exit 12 and head south on Route 140. Take the ramp to Route 24 north. Take exit 13A to reach Route 44 east.
Route 44 east to Route 24 north or Route 44 east continuation:
· Take Route 24 south. Take exit 12 and head south on Route 140. Take the ramp to Route 24 north. Take exit 13A to cross over Route 44 to access Route 24 north via the on-ramp or continue onto Route 44 east.
Route 44 west to Route 24 south or Route 44 west continuation:
· Take the ramp to Route 24 north. Take exit 14B for I-495 north. Take exit 7B for Route 24 south. Take exit 13 for Route 44 west or cross over Route 44 to access the ramp to Route 24 south.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advance message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Access will remain available for emergency vehicles needing to continue across the bridge on Route 44.
MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, reduce speed, and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
