Halloween is almost here, and the Fall River Public Library is counting down the days with a full scare schedule! Here’s what’s happening the week of Monday, October 24 – Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Get ready for a living nightmare, because the library is presenting a LIVE, interactive NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET exhibit on Thursday, October 27, for one hour only, from 7-8 pm. If you liked the Stephen King tribute, you’ll love this creative re-creation of the 1980s horror classic, as “A Nightmare” comes to the Elm Street lawn! Bring your camera to this spooktacular outdoor event and meet Freddy Kreuger himself—if you dare!

Other highlights of the pre-Halloween week:

Monday Movies: Matinee movies are offered every Monday at 1 pm in the Meeting Room with a new surround sound system. On Monday, October 24, the library will be showing the action-packed superhero movie Thor: Love & Thunder; and on October 31, Halloween itself, enjoy the creepy thriller The Black Phone.

MONDAY, 10/24: Pick up a Dangling Skeleton Craft for kids in the Children’s Room while supplies last. Take-home crafts are sponsored by Debby and Richard Danner. At 6 pm, we will have a Tissue Paper Sugar Skull craft for teens and tweens, age 10+. For more information, contact Taylor in the teen room: tsilva@sailsinc.org or 508-324-2700, ext. 123.

TUESDAY, 10/25: Kids age 3 and up are invited to a Preschool Storytime Halloween Party at 11 am! The library will share spooky/silly stories, put on a shadow puppet show, have a bat wand craft, and there will be other surprises.

WEDNESDAY, 10/26: The preschool Play & Learn group meets at 10 am. The library will host a free Covid Vaccine Clinic from 3-7 pm in the Meeting Room. They will also have free Covid Test Kits which can be picked up at any service desk. Covid vaccines will be offered for adults and children ages 6 months and up. Insurance is not required, and walk-ins are welcome.

Our Magic: The Gathering group for teens age 12-18 meets from 5-7 pm in the Fell Reading Room. New players always welcome.

Also on Wednesday, David Mello, will present a dramatic reading of The Tell-Tale Heart & Other Ghostly Tales at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 94 Cherry Street, starting at 6:30 pm. Enjoy these spooky tales in style in the beautifully restored Lafayette-Durfee House, a historic home originally owned by Judge Thomas Durfee, which hosted the Marquis de Lafayette during the Revolutionary War. Recommended for adults and teens.

THURSDAY, 10/27: Kids age 4 and up can play interactive games with BEAM from 4-5 pm in the Meeting Room. Registration not required.

The Nightmare on Elm Street live event begins at 7 pm. For one hour only, the Elm Street lawn will be transformed into a dreamscape for dedicated fans of horror and the macabre. Just in time for Halloween, this meet and greet event will give attendees an opportunity to take photos with the dreamweaver, Freddy Krueger himself. They recommend attending in your pajamas for the perfect photo opportunity. Step into the fantasy dreamland and pose with our giant crescent moon and Freddy, enjoy some of our dreamy cloud cotton candy, and see how one of the horror effects was created as we reproduce a memorable scene from Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) on the lawn. This event is recommended for adults and teens 13+.

SATURDAY, 10/15: The library’s Chess Club meets in the Fell Reading Room at 1 pm.

There will also be a free Vaccine Clinic in the Meeting Room from 1 pm to 4 pm. Covid vaccines will be offered for adults and children ages 6 months and up. Insurance is not required, and walk-ins are welcome.
