Opinion: Soon-to-be Fall River resident expresses several concerns with City’s dog park

I’m in the process of moving to Fall River from Tennessee. I was excited to take my dog to the (Jose Silva Memorial Dog Park) for the first time.

Luckily, I took my own dog bags because the ones the city is supposed to supply was empty. The only thing in the poop bag dispenser was an empty nip bottle.

Also, the gate to the small dog park was being held closed with a rope because the latch was broken and there were many areas around the fencing between the large dog area and the small dog area where a smaller dog could get under the fence and into the large area where they could possibly be attacked. We actually witnessed this firsthand when a small dog went right under to the other side but luckily there were no large aggressive dogs on the other side. As a possible new resident, I’d love to be able to take my small dog to the park without worrying if she will get through to the large dog area.

I’m enclosing pictures of the empty bag receptacle and the fencing not going all the way to the ground. Since this is a city owned park, I think it’s their responsibility to keep up the maintenance on this park so pet owners feel safe when letting their pets enjoy a day out and socialize with other dogs.

Also, it’s a Fall River law that pet owners pick up after their dogs but if someone forgets their doggy bags then how are they supposed to do that?

Sincerely
Thomas Sneed

Once you make your first tax payment to the City of Fall River, monies will be available to satisfy the needs of your dog. Until the minimum contribution of your tax dollars accrues to the necessary amount to pay for your requests, you will be on your own with pet sitting Molly. You see, Fall River is a democracy so your rights and needs require a majority vote. If you would have decided to move to a Republic then your individual rights would be protected. In Fall River you are simply a member of the faceless mob. Not sure who you think your audience will be here at F.R. Reporter? You may have better luck at the F.R. city council. Maybe Leo or Joe Camara might send your requests through endless committee meetings for the next decade. Thoughts and Prayers to you and your mangy mutt!

Due tou your list of grievances regarding the dog park I believe you should continue your search for a town to relocate to. There are far more issues that we deal with every day not only in Fall River but the greater Fall River area. We have infrastructure issues. Roads and bridges are horrible. One of the reasons why I drive a Wrangler is because I am tired of damage done to my vehicles due to the road conditions here. The town that I live in, Swansea, over developed our area without even thinking about the potable water infrastructure. Our water has high manganese and silt, not to mention a known Radon issue. Do yourself a favor ..keep looking for a different place to relocate

Stay in Tennessee or move to a rural red state. Born and raised in Fall River but after the 80’s everything went downhill and will only get worse. I expect it to turn into Chicago or Detroit. Good Luck!

The letter writer is either some pitbull-owning project rat moving in with some baby momma or a well-healed transplant expecting it to be like Cambridge here.

Either way the letter is lolz
