One suspect caught, one still at large in Fall River home invasion
On Sunday February 18, 2018 at approximately 5:00PM, Officer Derek Pereira was proactively patrolling in the area of Robeson Street and New Boston Rd when he noticed a female waiving her hands in an effort to gain his attention. After speaking briefly with the female, Officer Pereira discovered that the female was a victim of a possible home invasion. She stated that two masked men had just broken into her home and that one of the suspects was currently being held down by her boyfriend. The other male had already fled the area.
Officer Pereira with the assistance of Officer Joseph Kubicek went to further investigate the residence located at 136 New Boston Road. Upon entry they found an individual later identified as JOSE DIAS (Age: 44) being held down by two other individuals. After speaking with the victims inside of the apartment at 136 New Boston Road, it was determined that DIAS was one of the suspects in the incident. He was immediately taken into custody. It was also determined that both suspects were armed with knives and had knocked on the door announcing “Police open up!” While the victims were attempting to answer the knock at the door it was kicked open and a struggle began. Three occupants of the apartment suffered minor injuries and lacerations during the incident and were treated at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
DIAS was subsequently treated for injuries from the incident and booked for the following charges: Home Invasion, Vandalize Property, Assault & Battery (3 counts), Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault & Battery on a Person over 60 years old.
The second suspect was described as a white male approximately 5’10” to 6’0″ tall, 200lbs to 230lbs with short black hair wearing a black zip up jacket with a black mask covering the lower half of his face. The investigation remains open in search of the identity of the second suspect.
