One dead, two others injured, in multi-vehicle crash in Rehoboth

A serious crash Wednesday has claimed the life of at least one person.

Near noon, the Rehoboth Police, along with Rehoboth Fire and EMS, responded to Tremont Street at Agricultural Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

According to Sgt. Norman J. Todd, upon arrival, officers observed a heavily damaged compact vehicle in the woods near the intersection while both Rehoboth Fire and EMS was already on scene tending to two injured parties. One of the injured had to be extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

Both parties were transported to R.I Hospital, according to police. The person that was extricated from the vehicle later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The status of the second party is unknown at this time.

The second vehicle involved was a large trash truck. The occupants of this vehicle appeared to be uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by Ptlm. Kandice Lague, and Det. Paul McGovern of the Rehoboth Police department. Assisting in the investigation were Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, the Bristol District Attorney’s Office and Crime Scene Services unit and the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Section.
