One dead, one facing charges, after fatal crash between Jeep, bike in Rhode Island

One person has died, and another is being charged after a collision.

According to Captain John K. MacCoy Jr., on Thursday just before 7:00 p.m., members of the North Kingstown Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash (car vs. tricyclist) on Boston Neck Road at the Earle Drive intersection. The crash involved a 2020 Green Jeep and a blue Schwinn tricycle style bike.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as 59-year- old Daniel J. Famiglietti of Warwick, RI. The tricyclist was identified as a 53-year-old female North Kingstown resident. 

An initial investigation revealed that the female cyclist was riding northbound in the northbound breakdown lane of Boston Neck Road at the intersection with Earle Drive when it was struck by the Jeep from behind. The female cyclist was transported to Kent Hospital by North Kingstown Fire personnel where she was pronounced deceased. 

The driver of the Jeep, Famiglietti, was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in death. Famiglietti was held overnight and will be arraigned at the 3rd Division District Court on Friday morning. 

The crash is currently under investigation by the North Kingstown Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Detective Division. Anyone having any information related to this crash is asked to contact the North Kingstown Police Department at (401) 294- 3316 extension 8211.

    It sounds like the rider was in her proper lane, going with the traffic, and not against it?
    People need to be re educated on the correct direction walkers and riders should be going on the road. Also that cyclists have all the rights and responsibility’s that a car does. Walkers face traffic and riders go with it.
    Drunk driving is a whole other problem, we’re all in danger from that!
