On-duty and off-duty officers disarm man after reportedly pointing gun at MA Walmart shoppers
A Massachusetts man has been arrested after reportedly pointing a gun at Walmart shoppers.
According to Plymouth Police, over the Holiday Weekend, Officers responded to Walmart for a report of a male pointing a handgun at people.
Upon arrival, Officers Oxsen and Sweeney immediately identified the subject, disarmed him, and took him into custody.
The suspect informed Officers that he thought “someone had taken a personal item from his shopping cart.” He was mistaken.
Recovered at the scene was a Sig Sauer 9MM handgun and 10 rounds of ammunition.
Celso Lopes, 42, of Sandwich, was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault with a Dangerous weapon, Assault and Battery, and Breach of the Peace while Armed.
The Plymouth Police Department commended Officers Oxsen and Sweeney, as well as an off-duty Boston Police Officer for their quick, professional response.
