Officials find vehicle, driver, seen driving into ocean in Massachusetts

HULL — Police Chief John Dunn and Fire Chief Christopher J. Russo report that the Hull Police and Fire Departments, with assistance from mutual aid partners, have located a vehicle and driver that drove into the ocean off of Pemberton Point on Sunday.

On Sunday, July 31, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Hull Police and Fire Departments and the Hull Harbormaster responded to multiple 911 calls reporting that a woman driving a pickup truck drove onto the beach in the area of 180 Main St., and drove into the water.

A large search assisted by multiple mutual aid partners located the truck and its driver in the water at approximately 6 p.m. The driver was pronounced dead. No identifying information regarding the driver is being released pending notification of family.

The Hull Police and Fire Departments and Harbormaster were assisted by the Boston Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, Marine Unit and Airwing, as well as assets from the Massachusetts Environmental Police, MassPort, the U.S. Coast Guard and Cohasset Police. The Norwell Fire Department provided mutual aid to cover Hull stations.

The incident remains under investigation by Hull Police and state police Troopers assigned to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office, but there appears to be no foul play. Additional inquires should be directed to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
