Off-duty nurses, firefighters respond to scene of fatal I-95 crash that also injured 5-year-old

GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a serious rollover crash involving two vehicles on an I-95 off-ramp.

On Saturday, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Georgetown Fire and Police responded to an I-95 off-ramp, at Route 133, for a report of a rollover crash involving two vehicles.

Prior to their arrival, two off-duty nurses and an off-duty firefighter who were traveling in the area, stopped and began administering emergency medical aid to the crash victims.

When emergency personnel arrived, they observed an SUV that had rolled onto its roof and a sedan with its airbags fully deployed. First responders also observed two individuals that had been ejected from the SUV.

One of three occupants of the SUV, a a 52-year-old Peabody man, was transported via medical helicopter to an area hospital.

Another occupant of the SUV, 45-year-old Nichole K. Rodgers, was ejected from the vehicle and was transported via ambulance to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The third occupant of the SUV, a 5-year-old girl, and the driver and sole occupant of the sedan were also transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Rowley Fire, Newbury Fire, Groveland Fire, Atlantic Ambulance and Action Ambulance also responded to assist at the scene.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
