Off-duty Massachusetts State Trooper rescues dog on highway in time for Christmas

A Massachusetts family got a Christmas present just in time thanks to an off-duty Massachusetts State Trooper and some bystanders.

According to Massachusetts State Police, while commuting home from his shift on Route 3 southbound in Duxbury on Christmas afternoon, through the rain and heavy fog, Trooper David Phan observed traffic ahead of him swerving to avoid something on the center line of the road.

Upon seeing that what was in the middle of the road was a dog, Trooper Phan stopped traffic and, with the help of some Good Samaritans, was able to corral the dog and get her into his cruiser, a little wet but unharmed.

Trooper Phan was able to track down the phone number for the owner of the dog, who was out looking for her. Trooper Phan then drove his new friend — whose name is Willow — back to her family in Pembroke, providing, no doubt, the best Christmas gift they got that day.

Nice work, Trooper, and all who helped. We’re very happy Willow made it home safely.
