Off-duty Massachusetts State Trooper helps pregnant woman after going into labor on Route 24

An off-duty Massachusetts State Trooper came to the rescue of a woman going into labor last week.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on the morning of Thursday, April 28, Trooper Jonathan Freedman was commuting home after working the midnight shift out of the State Police-Tunnels Barracks when he was flagged down by a woman standing outside a car on Route 24 south in Randolph.

When Trooper Freedman stopped to help, the woman told him that her pregnant friend, who was seated inside the car, had gone into labor and the frequency of her contractions was increasing. The birth of the child appeared imminent, according to police, and the women needed to get to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton.

Given that it was shortly after 9 a.m., and traffic was heavy, Trooper Freedman knew that an ambulance would take too much time to get to them, so he opted to perform an emergency escort of the women to the hospital.

MSP wanted to give a shoutout to Freedman for a job well done.

“His decisive action ensured that the expectant mother got to the hospital safely and in time to give birth there to a healthy child. Strong work, Trooper Freedman. We wish all life’s blessings to the mom and her new baby.”
