Now former Massachusetts school resource officer indicted on multiple child rape charges
Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced today that a Middlesex Grand Jury has indicted a former Massachusetts Deputy Chief of Police.
54-year-old John “Jay” Porter is facing three charges of Rape of a Child in connection with allegedly assaulting a student while he was assigned as a school resource officer in the Town of Hopkinton school system.
The incidents allegedly occurred during 2004 and 2005 while the victim was a 15-year-old student. During that time the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim on multiple occasions off school property.
This investigation has been handled by the District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police. The prosecutor is Assistant District Attorney Thomas Brant and Victim Witness Advocate Meaghan McCarthy. As of Friday, April 28, Porter is no longer on the Hopkinton Police Department.
The following is a statement from Hopkinton Town Manager Norman Khumalo and Police Chief Joseph Bennett:
“The Town has been notified by the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office that John Porter has been indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury on three charges of Rape of a Child in connection with crimes allegedly committed while he was assigned as a school resource officer in town.
“Porter was placed on paid administrative leave by Chief Bennett in August 2022 pending the outcome of an investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
“Porter is no longer employed by the Hopkinton Police Department. On Friday, Porter notified the town that he is seeking to retire, and the town accepted his immediate separation from employment.
“We are deeply disturbed and troubled by these accusations. These alleged crimes have no place in our community or anywhere else, and we extend our sympathies to the victim.
“The Hopkinton Police Department continues to cooperate fully with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.”
The arraignment for Porter has not yet been scheduled.
