The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office has identified a boy who died in a drowning accident on Sunday.
According to Gregg Miliote, A 16-year-old Providence boy drowned yesterday afternoon at Whiting Pond in North Attleboro.
The boy, who has been identified as Jonathan Lozada, died in the water at the pond late Sunday afternoon. He was at the pond with approximately a dozen friends and family members when the incident occurred. According to the preliminary investigation, Lozada went into the water with his friend and within minutes was seen by witnesses briefly flailing his arms before going under the water. His friend and an 11-year-old member of the group attempted to reach for Lozada, but the victim quickly descended into the deeper water at the pond.

Norton Fire Department rescue divers located the deceased at around 7:00 p.m. about 20 feet out from the shoreline, approximately 40 feet under water. The victim was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m. at the scene.
No foul play is suspected.
