New Mexican restaurant coming to Swansea as Umi’s Steakhouse owners retiring
A new restaurant is coming to Swansea at a familiar spot.
According to Swansea Board of Selectman Christopher Carreiro, UMI’s Japanese Steakhouse is under agreement to sell their property to Fiesta Mexican Restaurant and has initiated the process of transferring UMI’s liquor license to Fiesta.
Abutters are currently being notified of the Board of Selectmen’s public hearing for the liquor license transfer.
Umi’s is well known for their tasty cuisine and has been a popular spot for decades. The owners, Joanne and Wing Tai, stated that they are retiring and plan on closing by the end of the month.
In 2018/2019 Umi’s went through a period of opening, closing, and opening again, however, this time the eatery is closing for good.
Fiesta, family owned and operated since 2006, is known for their Mexican cuisine and gluten sensitive offerings with recipes that were passed down from previous generations.
In addition to Fall River, Fiesta Mexican Restaurant currently has locations in Dartmouth, East Bridgewater, Norton, and Somerset and plans on opening a second location in downtown Fall River.
