New Fall River gym owner aiming to get you fit
If you’re finding yourself looking for a new gym or a personal trainer to inspire you, then Aimee McDermott might be the right person to talk to. With an impressive background to match her spirit, it takes a lot of guts to open a business in the middle of a pandemic. Aimee has 5+ years working in the industry and until quite recently worked as a group instructor and Personal Trainer in both Somerset and Fall River.
When the gym she was affiliated with closed permanently, she decided to take the leap on her own. Aim to Get FIT is the realization of her hard work and perseverance. Opening last month in Fall River (847 Pleasant St.), she offers daily strength and conditioning classes, Vinyasa Yoga, Full Body Fitness and a Saturday boot camp. Safe, socially distanced groups and 1 on 1 training is available.
A graduate of the National Personal Training Institute, she is also certified in Russian Kettlebell and TRX suspension training. For good measure, she also holds certification from USA Powerlifting and Precision Nutrition Certification. You can expect a level of professionalism and knowledge not found in your discount gyms. What also sets Aim to Get FIT apart from the competition is Aimee’s personal fitness journey.
“I started my own weight loss journey in 2012 with a personal trainer who helped me lose 50 pounds in one year. I have since lost 70 pounds total and made my passion for fitness into a career. Prior to getting into this industry, I worked as a case manager and a waitress. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology which helps to better understand my clients on a deeper level. Weight loss and working out can be a very vulnerable situation for some, so I try my absolute best to meet everyone where they are and make them comfortable with every single exercise.”
“I pride myself in working around or with different injuries. I am able to modify all of my group classes to fit every single fitness level that walks through the door. If a client comes in having a weird pain one day, then I can quickly modify the workout to accommodate them during their session.”
With COVID-19 a concern, Aimee felt it was important to make her clients feel 100% safe and secure in the gym environment. Utilizing over 2000 square feet of space and keeping class sizes small has made it easy to socially distance. All equipment is sanitized prior to use and ample hand sanitizer and masks are always provided. No class is larger than 12 people.
Free consultations are offered for anyone interested in personal training or group classes. These 1 on 1 interactions allow Aimee to collaborate on the clients goals, assess their fitness history and come up with a plan to better understand their needs.
She explained it this way: ‘I know firsthand people can be intimidated by big box gyms and working out in front of others. My studio is the opposite. I believe I have created a welcoming and calm environment for my clients. It’s been really cool to be able to train a client 1-1 in my own space. We have access to all the equipment; there is no need to share and wait for others to be done. My clients tell me they “love the 1-1 without having others watching.” I’ve also been told that the small group classes (12 max) are just the right size. They feel they are getting the “Individual attention” they need.”
Ready to get fit? Anyone looking to join can do so with an unlimited class membership special of $99 a month. Aimee also offers punch cards for group classes; 5 classes for $60 and 10 classes for $110, and a one time drop in rate is also available for $15. The motto at Aim To Get Fit is, “Embrace the Suck and Get it Done!” We can all agree that working out can suck sometimes, but when you embrace the suck it makes the workout that much more tolerable!
Aimee also offers a discounted rate for teachers, nurses, vets, first responders, and law enforcement of $89 a month.
Here’s what one of her clients had to say:
“I have trained with Aimee for three years and keep coming back for more! Her workouts have grown with me, changed to fit my goals, and have always provided a healthy challenge. She has provided stellar insight and support, kept me accountable, and helped me recover from a post-accident atrophy to reach new personal records. Excellent person and trainer!” – Korie T.
