New Bedford has most new school cases in the state, Fall River 2nd in state for new staff cases

COVID-19 among Massachusetts schools saw a decrease in student cases after setting a record two weeks in a row.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 718 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from April 22 to April 28. 94 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 812.

The last report, which was for April 8 to April 14 due to school vacation, revealed that 1,279 tested positive. 1,095 of the positives were students and 184 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from April 22 to April 28.

Acushnet: 3 students
Attleboro: 4 students
Dartmouth: 2 students
Fairhaven: no cases
Fall River: 7 students and 4 staff
New Bedford: 43 students and 3 staff
Plymouth: 4 students
Seekonk: 1 student
Somerset: 4 students and 3 staff
Swansea: no cases
Taunton: 20 students and 3 staff
Westport: 2 students

New Bedford has the most new student cases and overall cases in the state. Fall River has the second most new staff cases. Taunton has the forth most new student cases and the fifth most new cases overall. Framingham had the second most new cases at 27.
