New Bedford and Washington D.C. trio arrested in Florida for New Bedford carjacking

Three that are being accused of a South Coast carjacking were found with the vehicle over 1,000 miles away from the reported crime.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, on Wednesday, Deputy Aaron Brami was alerted by an Automated License Plate Reader that a red 2015 Honda Civic that was carjacked from a 69-year-old man in New Bedford, Massachusetts, was entering Alachua County on US Highway 301 at the Alachua County and Bradford County line.

The car was then observed at CR 1474 and US HWY 301 before taking an abrupt right turn into a private residence.

Deputy Brami located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. He then maintained containment at the exit point as the vehicle fled in a one-way wooded area.

Deputy Brami summonsed the ASO Helicopter and K9 Units to help with the search for the suspects.

Although the search took 2-3 hours, utilizing multiple 4-legged partners, as well as 2 Air Support crews, the 2 male suspects and 1 juvenile female suspect were taken into custody and transported to the Alachua County Jail.

20-year-old Marco Paulo Neves-Barros of New Bedford, 19-year-old Mateo Manuel Paredes-Vincent of Washington D.C., and a 15-year-old female were charged in the carjacking.

The two adults are facing Grand Theft Auto and Resisting Arrest without Violence charges and had bail set at $75,000.
