Name released of 19-year-old killed in Attleboro highway crash
The victim in the April 29 fatal crash on Route 95 southbound in Attleboro has been identified.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 3 a.m., Troopers assigned to State Police-Foxboro responded to reports of a crash involving a 2010 Hyundai Accent and tractor trailer on Route 95 southbound South of Exit 6 in Attleboro. The operator of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries in the collision. Attleboro Fire and EMS and MassDOT responded to the scene as well.
Initial investigation revealed that, for reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai struck the rear of the tractor trailer. Hernane Ribeiro, 19, of Pawtucket, R.I. was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A 19-year-old female passenger from Brockton suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
The crash resulted in the left two travel lanes of Route 95 being closed for approximately four hours, leaving the right travel lane open to traffic. The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Troop H Detective Unit.
