Name released in fatal Somerset crash involving police cruiser

The name of the deceased driver in an early morning crash in Somerset has been released.

According to Jennifer Sowa of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on Friday, August 10 at approximately 12:35 a.m., Somerset Police Dispatch received information of a motor vehicle crash on Route 138 involving a marked Somerset Police cruiser and a Green Honda Civic. When police arrived on scene they located the Green Honda Civic facing South in the North bound travel lane of Route 138. The operator of the Civic was identified as 20 year old Hailey Allard of Somerset, MA. Allard was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Somerset officer was transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to Massachusetts State Police, preliminary investigation by multiple MSP units indicates the cruiser was traveling south on Route 138 (Riverside Avenue) responding to a call. At the same time, the 1999 Honda Civic was being operated northbound on Riverside Avenue and was approaching a left hand turn at the intersection with Westhill Avenue.

Both the police cruiser and Civic suffered severe front end damage.

The police cruiser crashed into a telephone pole and snapped it in two which resulted in power being shut off in the area.

According to Somerset Police, the call in question was a report of a man attempting to break into a truck in the parking lot of the Grid Iron Pub.

This matter is active and currently being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.
