Multiple motorists taken to the hospital after Massachusetts highway pileup leads to 15 vehicles being towed from the scene
Weather appears to have been a factor in a major pileup on a Massachusetts highway late last night.
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, just after 11:15 p.m. Thursday, patrols from the State Police-Charlton Barracks responded to a chain-reaction crash involving multiple tractor-trailers and passenger cars on the Mass Pike East in Brimfield.
Multiple motorists were transported to area hospitals and the severity of their injuries is still being determined.
Approximately 15 vehicles were towed from the scene.
All eastbound lanes of the Pike were closed at the crash scene until just before 5:00 a.m.
Procopio stated that icing on the roadway is believed to be the cause of the crash.
