Multiple fire crews extinguish late night dumpster fire that damaged local business
Lakeville and Freetown Firefighters responded to East Freetown for a building fire Sunday night.
A call came in just before 10:30 p.m. for a fire at business at 178 Middleboro Road in East Freetown.
According to the Lakeville Fire Department, the fire apparently started in a dumpster outside of the structure, then spread into the building.
Freetown firefighters made an aggressive attack and were joined soon after by Lakeville Firefighters.
LFD stated that the early actions of the Freetown Firefighters and the strong work of the mutual aid partners prevented what would have been a large-scale incident.
“The building where the fire occurred housed a large industrial occupancy with a heavy fire load. The early knockdown prevented the loss of businesses and employment for numerous people. Business owners should take away a lesson here. Dumpsters frequently burn; it is important to keep them away from your buildings. A minimum of 10 feet is required.”
The fire is under investigation.
