A late Friday afternoon multi-car crash has left one dead and another injured.

At about 4:15 p.m. today, a four-vehicle crash on Route 495 in Middleboro resulted in the death of a Brockton woman.

According to Massachusetts State Police, preliminary investigation by Trooper Eric Resendes indicates that a 57-year-old Brockton woman was traveling on the ramp from Route 44 to Route 495 Northbound in Middleboro in a 2002 GMC Envoy when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to spin out and become stationary, facing south in the northbound right travel lane. That vehicle was then struck head-on by a 2011 Cadillac CTS traveling northbound and operated by a 55-year-old Wareham woman. Following that collision, the Cadillac spun into the left travel lane, striking a 2014 Kia Optima, operated by a 55-year-old North Easton man. The Kia was then struck by a 2008 Toyota Sienna, operated by a 37-year-old Centerville man.

The operator of the GMC Envoy was transported to Morton Hospital in Taunton where she was subsequently pronounced deceased. The operator of the Cadillac was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton for treatment of serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and Troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

State Police were assisted on scene by Middleboro Fire and EMS and MassDOT.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
