Motorcycle rider critically injured, goes into cardiac arrest, after Bristol County highway crash

A motorcycle rider was injured after a weekend Bristol County highway collision.

According to the Mansfield Fire Department, on Saturday, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center received a call and dispatched the Mansfield Fire Department to a reported motorcycle crash on the ramp connecting Interstate 495 Northbound to Route 140 Northbound.

Massachusetts State Police, who were on scene, reported that a motorcycle had traveled off the roadway and that the operator was unconscious.

Mansfield Fire Department personnel arrived and immediately began providing emergency medical care to the injured motorcyclist. At approximately 5:53 p.m., the patient went into cardiac arrest. Firefighter/Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures and successfully resuscitated the patient, restoring circulation. Following resuscitation and stabilization efforts, the patient was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, for further treatment. The patient remains in critical condition.

The Mansfield Fire Department response included Engine 31, Engine 32, and Rescue 36, which responded with the department’s whole blood transfusion equipment and supplies. Mansfield Police and Massachusetts State Police also responded to the incident.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
