Mother loses 2nd child after missing Massachusetts son found dead from motorcycle crash, family looking for bike escort

A Massachusetts mother who reached out to the public for help to find her missing son, now has to bury him. Her second deceased child in 6 years.

According to family members, 23-year-old Joseph Benting of Plymouth, formerly of Pembroke, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, October 24.

His mother had stated that he was last seen Sunday night October 22nd at 10:30 p.m. leaving a bar in Easton on his white street bike heading home to Cedarville before he was found.

Benting was the younger brother of Matt, who passed away unexpectedly at 20-years-old due to a cardiac event in 2016.

Joseph was a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, class of 2022 and completed an internship with the Norwell Police Department.

Family members described him as the life of the party, but also the life of the family as he became a referee for youth and men’s league hockey where he refed his younger brother and oldest nephews’ games.

The family is looking for anyone who is available this Friday to have a group of bikers escort him to his burial site.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 3rd at St. Mary’s Hanover Church, 392 Hanover St, Hanover, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell. Those looking to escort Benting should be ready to leave the church at approximately 11:30 a.m.
