More immigrants released from ICE custody in Bristol County

BOSTON — Litigation in the country’s first certified coronavirus class action against ICE has led to the release of more individuals in immigration detention under the custody of Bristol County.

Fifteen immigrants are to be released as of April 9th bringing to 33 the total number of people released as a result of the lawsuit. According to Lawyers for Civil Rights, nationally, this is the largest number of individuals released from ICE detention.

Since the complaint was filed, COVID-19 deaths in Massachusetts have risen from 35 on March 27th to 433 on April 9. Infections in Massachusetts continue to climb from 3,240 on March 27 to 16,790 on April 9 causing the group to continue to press for all ICE detainees released that are under custody in Bristol County.

Yesterday, the Bristol County detention facility revealed two more COVID-19 infections among its staff: one correctional officer and one K9 officer. This brings the total to 3 infections among facility staff.
