Moped rider killed after hit-and-run collision in Fairhaven
FAIRHAVEN — Lt. Kevin Kobza reports that the Fairhaven Police Department responded to the scene of a fatal accident on Saturday night.
At just before 7:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a Chevy Silverado truck and moped on Main Street in the area of Riverside Cemetery near the Route 195 overpass.
The driver of the moped was seriously injured. Fairhaven Fire Department paramedics transported the moped driver by medical ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Chevy Silverado’s driver left the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that the moped and Silverado both were traveling southbound at the time of the crash.
29-year-old Alexis Alvarez of Brockton was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to ABC6 and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Alvarez suffered a serious head injury.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Fairhaven Police Department, State Police Crime Prevention and Control (CPAC) Unit, and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
