Miss North Shore wins Miss Massachusetts crown and ticket to Miss America, Miss Fall River comes in 2nd

Worcester, MA –Harvard University graduate Chelsea Vuong was named Miss Massachusetts 2023 from a field of 24 contestants. Vuong won a $15,000 scholarship and was also a preliminary evening gown winner.

Vuong is a member of Harvard’s Class of 2021 and holds a BA in Economics and a minor in Global Health and Health Policy. She works as a business analyst at McKinsey and Company. A classical pianist, Vuong will represent The Commonwealth at the Miss America competition next January.

“Ten years ago as a timid teenager, I began my journey in the Miss America Organization,” said Vuong. “My participation has helped me attend the college of my dreams and become the best version of myself through mentorship and sisterhood.”

Vuong, who was Miss North Shore, will spend her year of service promoting her Community Service Initiative “Dollars and Sense for Financial Freedom”.

“Rising college tuition rates have increased growing student loans and debt,” said Vuong. “This has consequently impacted the future of this generation as it makes it less feasible for students entering the workplace to start their adult independent lives. I look forward to continuing my efforts in increasing financial literacy at schools, churches, women’s shelters and with military families to help others become financially independent.”

Vuong hosts the new podcast The Currency Coach where she interviews current and retired NFL players and other celebrities about their personal financial journeys to help others expand their knowledge surrounding financial literacy.

Her website Chelsea4Change contains more information surrounding her 501(c)3 organization FinancialMile which is dedicated to bringing financial literacy to undergraduate students in the Cambridge area. As Miss Massachusetts, Vuong will expand this initiative across the state.

Over $30,000 in scholarships were awarded this past weekend at the Miss Massachusetts competition.

The 2023 Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Competition was held at Worcester’s Hanover Theatre. The other members of the Top 5 were:

· 1st Runner-Up Miss Fall River Megan Sylvia, who was awarded a $3,000 scholarship and a $500 Preliminary Talent Award

· 2nd Runner-Up Miss Western Massachusetts Caroline Holladay, who was awarded a $2,500 scholarship

· 3rd Runner-Up Miss Lakeville Brooklyn Toli, who was awarded a $2,000 scholarship and a $500 Preliminary Talent Award

· 4th Runner-Up Miss Worcester County Gabrielle Griffiths, who was awarded a $1,500 scholarship
