ME: Two arrested after 3-year-old child found unsupervised with drugs in system
Two adults have been arrested after a young child was found with no supervision.
Rockland Police were dispatched to the Rockland Ferry Terminal for a report of an unsupervised 3-year-old child in the parking lot.
According to RPD, the child was located, however, police were unable to identify or locate the child’s parents/guardians. Department of Health and Humans Services responded to the scene to assist.
Police went door to door in the surrounding neighborhood attempting to locate the child’s parents/guardian, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
A photograph of the child was then posted on the department’s social media account.
Information gained from the social media post led Rockland Police to make contact with the parents at a nearby hotel.
The child was ultimately transported for medical care and found to have been exposed/ingested illicit drugs.
During the investigation, Rockland Police recovered a large amount of illicit drugs in the hotel room. The Rockland Police Department and Maine Drug Enforcement Agents arrested 43-year-old Paul Mahonen Jr. and 32-year-old Nicole Caven-Gardner, both of Knox Maine.
Mahonen Jr. was charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Scheduled W Drugs (Class A) and Caven-Gardner was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class D).
Additional charges on both Mahonen Jr. and Caven-Gardner are expected.
The investigation is ongoing.
