McNamara wants back on Somerset board after resigning

Former Somerset Board of Selectwoman Holly McNamara is looking to get back into politics.

McNamara pulled papers and turned in the required signatures last week, qualifying her to be on the April ballot for a seat on the Somerset Board of Selectman. The move comes after McNamara has spent the last three years away from public office after resigning from the board in 2021 with just a year left in her second term.

In a letter McNamara read at her last Board of Selectman meeting, McNamara stated that she had done “every single thing I have set out to do as a selectman and more ” and that she was “very happy with what has been accomplished and feel that the town is in a better place.”

McNamara went on to say that she had “some really big future plans” and resigning would give her an opportunity to get a jump start on them. No word on what those plans entailed but McNamara has avoided most public meetings since she has resigned.

Last week, McNamara disclosed on her personal Facebook page that she is an employee for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and that supporters could learn more about her campaign on her Committee to Elect Holly McNamara page instead.

McNamara is challenging incumbent Allen Smith for the open seat. Smith, who is just finishing up his first term on the board, has also taken out papers and returned the necessary signatures to be on the April ballot.

Fall River Reporter interviewed Smith recently for our “Time for Ten” series. You can read it here.
