Mayor Correia taking leave of absence, suspending re-election campaign
Mayor Correia has stated he is taking a leave of absence.
According to the Boston Globe, Correia, maintains his innocence, but is taking a leave from office and suspending his re-election campaign.
Correia will keep the title and his $119,000 annual salary, but will relinquish mayoral duties to City Council president, Cliff Ponte.
Correia stated that he is stepping aside “so the city is not distracted by this assault on my career and my legacy.”
Correia will make an official statement on Tuesday.
