Mayor Correia makes statement concerning recall petition
The signed affidavit calling for the recall of Mayor Jasiel Correia II was officially approved by the board of elections Monday morning which has begun the recall petition.
The recall group has 20 days as of Monday to obtain 2,510 signatures (five percent of the city’s registered voters).
A recall election will occur if the correct amount of signatures are received and certified and the Mayor does not resign from office in 5 days from the certification.
The Mayor issued a statement this afternoon concerning the recall and it states as follows:
“I am grateful to the citizens of Fall River who have stood by me and continue to support me. I am touched by your words of kindness and encouragement and I intend to continue doing what I was elected to do – work hard each day to make Fall River a better and safer city. I support any citizens right to petition under the rules of the charter. In the event a recall petition does gain the necessary signatures, I ask that the citizens re-elect me so that our progress can continue. I ask that the people of Fall River show their support by not signing the recall petition. Thank you and God Bless.” –Mayor Jasiel F. Correia II
