MassDOT issues update on South Coast Rail work in Fall River, New Bedford, area towns
MassDOT has issued an update on South Coast Rail work taking place in southern New England.
Assonet: Detour for Grade Crossing, Culvert and Track Work at Beechwood Road
Location of Work: Railroad grade crossing at Beechwood Road in Assonet
Dates/Hours of Work: Detour currently in place and continues to Sunday, October 3; final paving of road Saturday, October 2, 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM; all other days, regular work hours are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Beechwood Road in Assonet will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until Sunday, October 3. All through traffic will be routed to Richmond Road/Route 79 and Malbone Road in Assonet. Police details will allow local traffic access only on Beechwood Road.
Lakeville: Detour for Grade Crossing Work at Leonard Street
Location of Work: Leonard Street in Lakeville
Dates/Hours of Work: 24-hours/day Friday, September 24 to Sunday, September 26
Leonard Street in Lakeville will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning Friday, September 24 to Sunday, September 26. All through traffic will be routed to Taunton Street, North Precinct Street and Southworth Street in Lakeville. Police details will allow local traffic access only on Leonard Street.
Assonet: 24-Hours/Day Track Work
Location of Work: Railroad right-of-way between Colonial Drive and Forge Road in Assonet
Dates/Hours of Work: 24-hours/day Wednesday, September 29 to Sunday, October 3
Daytime Work on Middleborough Secondary and New Bedford Main Line
Location of Work: •New Middleborough Station site, 161 South Main Street, Middleborough •East Taunton Station site, 1141 County Street, Taunton •Wamsutta Layover Facility site, 217 Herman Melville Boulevard, New Bedford •Church Street Station site, 387 Church Street, New Bedford •Middleborough Secondary and New Bedford Main Line right-of-way
Dates/Hours of Work: •Monday, September 20 through Sunday, September 26, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM •Monday, September 27 through Friday, October 1, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Construction is ongoing at station and layover sites and along the railroad right-of-way from Middleborough to New Bedford.
Daytime Work on Fall River Secondary

Dates/Hours of Work: •Monday, September 20 through Sunday, September 26, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM •Monday, September 27 through Friday, October 1, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Construction is ongoing at station and layover sites and along the railroad right-of-way from Berkley to Fall River.
Overnight Transportation of Soils to Assonet and Weaver’s Cove Site in Fall River
To prepare for overnight track work, the contractor will export material by truck off of the railroad right-of-way to designated stockpile locations in Assonet and the Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility site in Fall River. While every effort will be made to minimize trucking outside the hours of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, additional overnight trucking is anticipated in order to complete the work.

Dates/Hours of Work: Overnight Wednesday, September 29, Thursday, September 30 and Friday, October 1, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Overnight and Daytime Transportation of Soils to Middleborough and Freetown Station Sites
Soils excavated from work along the Middleborough Secondary and New Bedford Mainline will be transported by truck to the new Middleborough Station site.
Location of Work: New Middleborough Station site, 161 South Main Street, Middleborough
Dates/Hours of Work: Friday, September 24, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM; Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Soils excavated from work in Taunton (East Taunton Station, Cotley Junction, and Galleria Mall area) and New Bedford (Church Street area) are being transported by truck to the Freetown Station site.
Location of Work: Freetown Station site, 161 South Main Street, Assonet
Dates/Hours of Work: Ongoing to end of September, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
